Privacy policy

TapServe helps mobile money agents in Ghana run their network's agent menus (MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money) and gives business owners a portal to follow their shops. This policy explains what the app and the portal handle, why, and what you can do about it. It is provided by TapServe, who is responsible for this data under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
What the app does on your phone
- Accessibility service. With your consent, the app reads your network's USSD dialogs in the phone app and fills them in for transactions you start: it picks menu options and types the numbers and amounts you entered. It works only in the phone app's USSD dialogs. It never reads or types your PIN: you enter it yourself in the network's screen. If your business asks for it and you agree, it also notes when a USSD menu is used outside the app: only the time, the network and whether a PIN was asked for.
- Notification access. With your consent, the app reads message notifications to find your network's own messages (for example from MobileMoney, ATMoney, AirtelTigo, T-CASH or VF-EVD). It uses them to confirm transactions such as cash-outs, to record cash-outs customers start from their own phone, and to read balances the network sends by SMS. Messages from anyone else are ignored, and are never stored or sent anywhere.
- Phone permissions. Used to dial USSD codes on the SIM you choose and to list your SIM lines.
- Notifications. Used to tell you when a waiting transaction settles and when a balance is low.
What is stored
On your phone, the app keeps the transactions you make: customer phone numbers, merchant and agent IDs, amounts and references you enter, and the names, balances, fees, commission and transaction IDs your network shows. It also keeps your SIM lines and settings. This is used for your history, receipts, saved customers, balance alerts and cash counts.
When you sign in, the app also backs up to our servers:
- your account: email address, phone number, name and plan;
- your phone: an installation ID, the Android device ID, the make, model, Android and app version, and your SIM line names;
- your transactions as described above, so your history can be restored and, if you work for a business, seen by its owner. Customer details are encrypted in our database;
- end-of-day cash counts, and the outside-USSD notes described above if you agreed to them;
- a push token, so alerts can reach the business owner's phone.
The app does not collect contacts, location, photos or the content of other apps. Your PIN is never collected.
If you pay for a plan in the portal, the payment is made on Paystack's page, by mobile money or card. Paystack handles your mobile money number or card details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card number or PIN. We keep the plan, amount, date, payment method (mobile money or card), Paystack's reference and whether it went through.
Who sees it
- You, in the app and in the portal.
- If you work at a shop on a TapServe Business account: that business's owner, for the shops you work in.
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us: our hosting provider, an email provider (Brevo) that sends sign-in codes, Paystack for plan payments, and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers alerts.
- Authorities, only when Ghanaian law requires it.
We do not sell data, show ads or use analytics or tracking tools.
How long we keep it, and your choices
Data on your phone stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. Data on our servers is kept while your account is active, so history can be restored and businesses can keep their records. You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and its data, using the contact details below. A business owner can sign a staff phone out at any time.
You can turn the accessibility service and notification access off in Android settings whenever you like. The app then can't run transactions or read confirmations.
Security
Data travels to our servers over encrypted connections, and customer details are encrypted at rest. The app can be locked with your fingerprint, face or an app PIN, and balances stay hidden until you choose to show them.
Children
TapServe is for registered mobile money agents and businesses. It is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes and contact
We will update this page if the way we handle data changes, and change the date at the top.
